Write to Your Local Politicians

Tell your elected representatives today what you think about the Northern Gateway

You can make a real difference by writing to you councillor or MP and telling them what you think about the Northern Gateway. The will take notice of the effort you have made to write and each letter will have a greater cumulative effect.

You can enter your postcode into www.writetothem.com to find a simple way to contact your elected representatives at District, County, National and European level.

Please contact your City Councillors about this first, as they are going to be voting on this issue very soon.

Even if you feel very strongly about this issue, please bear in mind that councillors tend to respond better to polite letters. You might find it helpful to cut and paste some or all of this sample letter

If you have time, please also send your letter to your County Councillors and/or your Member of Parliament and/or your Members of the European Parliament to let them know how you feel about this too.  We've attached another sample letter.

Even if you don't live in Oxford, please let your elected representatives know what you feel about the proposed scheme.  They can - in turn - lobby the Secretary of State, who has the power to stop these plans.  Such a drastic expansion of Oxford would have implications for the whole region.   What's more, Oxford is a world-class city that attracts visitors from across the Globe.  The whole of the UK should be concerned to retain its unique character.  Here is a sample letter to send to politicians representing constituencies outside Oxford.

Finally, please contact the Secretary of State directly.  He has the power to stop the Northern Gateway going ahead.  His email address is: Contactus@communities.gsi.gov.uk or you can write to him at The Right Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government, Eland House, Bressenden Place, London SW1E 5DU.  Here is a sample letter to send to him.

ENGAGE-Oxford would very much like to hear how all of these politicians respond.  If possible, please forward your replies to lobbying@engage-oxford.org.uk.uk, for our records.
